GEOG 313 - Computer Programming for GIS


Introduces fundamental concepts of computer programming to customize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications. This course is ideal for graduate students and upper level undergraduates who are looking for additional programming skills in GIS customization and automation. Topics to be covered include object-oriented programming, scripting, graphic user-interface (GUI) design, and customization using Visual Basic Application language within ArcGIS environment. A series of hands-on lab exercises will take students through the Visual Basic Applications programming to customize ArcGIS. Particular emphasis will be placed on the use of Visual Basic Applications programming for spatial data manipulation. No prior knowledge of programming is assumed, but background in ArcGIS and fundamental GIS concepts will be expected of the students who wish to take this class.

Prerequisites: GEOG 206 /GEOG 306 /IDCE 30274 /UDSC 296 Vector GIS.
