ARTS 174 - Collage and Mixed Media: From High to Low

This course offers an exploration of the ways materials and ideas can be transformed using approaches in both high and low technologies. By looking closely at how artists of the 20th century, and especially of the last few years, have made dynamic artwork from tools, methods and materials as diverse as trash, the computer, stencils, projection, layering processes, make-up and food, students will become familiar with current movements, directions and attitudes in art. This course will build on already existing studio-art skills and propel one to think and create more expansively using a larger toolbox.

May be repeated for credit.
