MATH 110 - Diving into Research: Statistical Modeling

We will explore themes and applications of statistics over a wide range of disciplines. A series of case studies will cover topics such as descriptive statistics, random sampling, graphics and data visualization, estitmation, testing, and simulation of random processes, applied to disciplines such as ecomonics, biology, ecology, and geography.  Emphasis will be placed on investigating current advances in statistics at a conceptual level. The need for prior mathematical background will be kept at a minimum level. We will also be employing computer graphics and related statistical software for visual and quantitative exploration.  Note:  the yearlong course is 0.5 credit per semester, and the full year is necessary to obtain credit.  Math 110 does not satisfy any requirement of the Math major.
