CHEM 134 - Biological Organic Chemistry

Type of Course: Lecture, Laboratory
CHEM 134 is the second semester of the two-semester organic-chemistry sequence and builds upon the concepts of structure, bonding, geometry, stereochemistry and fundamental reaction mechanisms developed in CHEM 131 . Special emphasis is placed on the biological applications of organic chemistry. “Topics include free radical chemistry, chemistry of carbonyl compounds (aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acid family), extended molecular orbitals and conjugation, aromatic substitution, carbonyl condensation reactions, amines, carbohydrates and amino acids.”

Prerequisites: CHEM 131 .
