MGMT 170 - Managerial Communications

Whatever field you chose, communication strategy and communication style will influence every aspect of your professional life. This course is about the communication process, logic, organizing thoughts, influencing others, and analyzing and presenting data. Written and verbal communication skills improve with progressive practice augmented by constructive feedback.  In this course the emphasis will be on experiential learning, learning by doing. Students will participate in in-class exercises and activities designed to increase their overall communication effectiveness and confidence.

The objectives of Managerial Communication are to create an educational environment where each person’s unique strengths and contributions are respected; develop and refine the student’s writing skills; develop and refine the student’s oral presentation skills; and analyze the communication process and its impact on professional interaction and task accomplishment.

Along with these objectives, it is anticipated that students will increase their ability to listen for understanding, learn how to work effectively with others in small groups or teams, and enhance their ability to understand the differences in communication style between people who are not from the same culture.
