TA 206 - Languages of Theater

Type of Course: Seminar, Discussion
A study of the way meanings are made in theater through structure and sign. Examines the function of nonverbal communication in theater, especially mask, gesture, movement and sound. Plays may include works of Euripides, Shakespeare, Cocteau, Apollinaire, Jarry, Genet and Pinter. Critical works read include Artaud’s “The Theater and its Double,” Brook’s “The Empty Space” and Grotowski’s “Towards a Poor Theater.” Scene work. May be taken as a companion course to CMLT 205 .
