BCMB 274 - Amyloid Proteins

Type of Course: Lecture, Laboratory
This course will introduce the biochemistry and biophysics of proteins associated with amyloidoses, a group of diseases characterized in part by the formation of insoluble amyloid plaques in the affected organs. Topics include the amyloid-b protein in Alzheimer’s disease, a-synuclein in Parkinson’s disease, the prion protein in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and the islet amyloid polypeptide in type 2 diabetes. 

Prerequisites: BIOL/CHEM/BCMB 271 or PERM
