EDUC 375 - Powerful Discussions and Powerful Learning

Type of Course: Research Seminar

This seminar focuses on academically productive talk – across all content areas and all grade levels. A group of Woodland teachers and administrators, along with Sarah Michaels and Kate Bielaczyc from Clark, have been meeting weekly during the fall and exploring what reasoning and evidence-based discussion looks like and sounds like in action. We read articles together, and audio tape discussions in all of our classrooms. We include a few wonderful Clark undergraduates, who work with us and transcribe selected segments of our audio recordings. Together, we look closely at what makes for productive talk (and writing) and powerful learning.
