MGMT 236 - Retailing Management

Gives a general analysis of the structure of retailing emphasizing the retailing environment and operating efficiencies; includes patronage behavior, merchandise control, pricing, promotion, location, and vendor relations; and gives special attention to emerging trends in retailing.

The main objective of this course is to familiarize students with the decisions involved in running a retail firm and the concepts and principles for making those decisions. This course will provide you with an overview of the many decisions made by retailing entrepreneurs and managers both in traditional outlets and in Internet venues, as they attempt to predict and fulfill demand for products and services in their retail establishments and to establish relationships with customers. While the course focuses on the retail industry including retailers of consumer services, the content of the course is useful for students interested in working for companies that interface with retailers such as manufacturers of consumer products or for students with a general management or entrepreneurial interest.
