Overview


The field of public relations is evolving at an unprecedented pace and there are growing opportunities for experienced professionals to lead and successfully navigate their organizations through these changes. A certificate in Public Relations prepares graduate students with the actionable skills and strategies needed to lead all aspects of strategic communications in today’s global marketplace.   With a focus on storytelling, branding and managing internal and external stakeholders whether it is a new innovation or managing a crisis, this concentration will equip students with the necessary skills and tools to make a positive impact in their workplace.  

Learning Outcomes


  • Development of skills in crafting, planning, budgeting, and executing a comprehensive public relations campaign.
  • Ability to articulate the intersection of public relations, media relations, crisis communication and strategic communications.
  • Demonstrate the contribution of public relations practitioners in contemporary society.
  • Utilization of  tools and techniques in managing stake holder expectations.
  • Ability to apply  persuasion techniques to reach various audiences.
  • Demonstrate the ethical and legal aspect of the practice of public relations.
  • Ability to develop a strategic public relations campaign to achieve specific goals and objectives.
  • Master the art of storytelling a unique public relations technique. 

Certificate in Public Relations Requirements


The Public Relations certificate is a three course stackable credential to the MSC degree.  The certificate can be completed online or through a hybrid model.

MSPC 3114 - Crisis Communication  

MSPC 3217 - PR in the Digital Age  

MSPC 3218 - Brand Journalism  

MSPC 3220 - Communication Practicum  

MSPC 3226 - The Art of Stakeholder Management
