BCMB 264 - Biophysical Chemistry

Type of Course: Lecture, Laboratory
Emphasizes the physical chemistry of biological macromolecules—proteins and nucleic acids. Covers the basic laws of thermodynamics, molecular thermodynamics (including aspects of modeling macromolecular structure, molecular mechanics and molecular dynamics simulations), statistical thermodynamics, x-ray and NMR structure determination, light scattering by macromolecules, kinetics quantum mechanics and spectroscopy, and solution behavior of macromolecules. The laboratory sessions are split between “wet” macromolecular chemistry and computational projects.

Prerequisites: BCMB 271 , MATH 121 , MATH 125  or permission of instructor.

Cross Listed: BCMB 364, CHEM 264 , CHEM 364

Instructor: Mr. Lazo

When Offered: Offered every spring

Faculty: Noel Lazo, Ph.D. Assistant Professor and Carlson Chair in Chemistry; Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biology
