CHEM 131 - Organic Chemistry I

Type of Course: Lecture, Laboratory
Discusses the chemistry of carbon and its compounds. The structures and reactions of related classes of organic molecules are systematically studied with emphasis on reaction mechanism and structural factors that affect reactivity. The laboratory concentrates on the preparation and physical, spectroscopic and chemical properties of these classes of compounds. In-class and final exams, laboratory reports.

Prerequisites: CHEM 102  or advanced placement.
