COMM 259 - Futuring the News

Type of Course: Seminar
This project-oriented course will explore prospects for the future of news consumption, especially newspapers and their publishers. Grounded in analysis of demographic trends (age, race/ethnicity) in news consumption and critical analyses of news formats and sources, the focus will be on current practices for selecting and accessing news and on the prospects for promoting “news literacy” in the future. Projects will focus on assessments of news preferences, mock-ups of news formatting, roles for local and national/international news, and modes for news delivery in the context of technological innovations.
