ENG 183 - African American Literature II

Type of Course: Lecture, Discussion
Explores the aesthetic modes configuring the evolution of African American literature in the 20th and 21st centuries, especially the novel. Focus is on the experimental and innovative sensibilities regulating the evolving canon of postmodern writing produced by Americans of African descent. Authors studied may include David Anthony Durham, Percival Everett, Minister Faust, Edward P. Jones, Gayl Jones, Jamaica Kincaid, Toni Morrison, John Ridley, Fran Ross, Carl Hancock Rux, Olympia Vernon, Colson Whitehead and Kevin Young. For undergraduate English majors and minors, this course partially satisfies the Historical Sequences (A) requirement.
