HIST 259 - Modern Germany

Type of Course: Lecture, Discussion
Examines key cultural, social and political developments in Germany from the early-19th century, with emphasis on Bismarck’s Germany, the era of the first World War, the Revolution of 1918-19 and the Weimar Republic. This is the first of a two-part course on the history of modern Germany. It also provides an introduction to the Nazi period, though this turbulent and tragic time is studied in-depth in the second semester course. Formerly titled Modern Germany.
