PHIL 263 - Philosophy of Mind

Type of Course: Lecture, Discussion
A critical examination of the nature and concept of mind. We consider the following questions: What is the relationship between the mind and the brain? What is the nature of consciousness and does the existence of conscious experience argue against a physicalist conception of the mind? Readings include works by Smart, Putnam, Fodor, Jackson, Lewis, and Loar.

Prerequisites: It is strongly recommended that students have completed some previous coursework in philosophy.
