PSTD 130 - Genocide


Provides students with a comparative perspective that highlights theory and concrete examples of genocide. The course will begin with an overview of structural, cultural, psychological and political conditions that make the occurrence of and experience of genocidal behavior more probable. After surveying sociological theories of genocide, we will explore four cases of genocide that took place over the course of centuries and across several continents. The course will end with discussion of the prevention of genocide.
