PSYC 208 - Lab in Communication and CognitionType of Course: Laboratory, Discussion This course provides an introduction to the basic methods used for conducting experimental psychological research with a focus on designing research that brings together the areas of early communication and cognition. It aims to provide a conceptual foundation for understanding how to plan, conduct, analyze, and evaluate experiments from an interdisciplinary viewpoint. The course includes consideration of common problems encountered when designing studies, techniques that can be used to surmount these problems, and illustrates effective and ineffective designs with concrete examples taken from classic and current research in communications and cognition. Students will participate in individual and group research projects involving observational and experimental techniques and receive training in different phases of research, including formulating research questions, data analysis, and report writing.
Prerequisites: PSYC 101 , PSYC 105 , PSYC 108 and PSYC 150 .
