PSYC 349 - Cultural Perspectives on Childhood Learning and Development

Type of Course: Graduate Seminar
This course links theories of psychological development, culture, and learning in children’s lives. We will examine issues related to the institution of school, the organization of family life, and the historical and cultural organization of learning and childhood. Course material will be both qualitative and quantitative in nature and will be drawn primarily from psychology, but also will also include education, anthropology, and history. We will examine these issues both inside and outside the United States with special attention paid to disparities found in school achievement of particular groups.
