GEOG 374 - Seminar in Urban Geography, Part II

In this seminar we will consider fundamental geographical aspects of urban theory as part of a year-long sequence. Following from GEOG 373 , we will survey major theoretical perspectives focusing on political economy and postmodern and poststructural perspectives. This course places special emphasis on understanding approaches to “difference”, especially class, race/ethnicity, and gender. The course goal is to understand the ways that scholars have approached the study of cities, and to compare and contrast the epistemological assumptions underlying different approaches to “the urban.” We will critically evaluate major theoretical perspectives in light of their contribution to contemporary research.

Anticipated Terms Offered: Offered every other year or as GEOG 373.
