MGMT 5514 - Green Operations Management


Increasingly, organizations are actively managing their operations and supply chains as a key area of their environmental impact. The significance of emissions and natural resource use in an organization’s supply chain is often several times greater than the organization’s own operations. Therefore, the supply chains of organizations provide significant opportunities as a source of improved efficiency and cost savings. This course will investigate these topics:

  • Environmental and take-back legislation
  • Lean Management  - Pollution prevention and waste reduction
  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS); ISO 14000  
  • Certifications: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
  • Product and Market Development & Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
  • Design for Environment - Cradle-to-cradle design
  • Evolution of Green Supply Chain
  • Methods for managing the demands of green supply chain assessments from both the supplier and purchasing organization perspective.

Open to MBA students only.
