EDUC 337 - Educational Reform and the Role of Teacher

Modern education reform movements essentially began with the Nation at Risk report of 1983. Since then, various groups—politicians, think-tanks, corporations, foundations—have been active in this reform, but what role have teachers played? Why are teachers not as included in reform as is necessary? How do teacher evaluation systems, high-stakes standardized tests, common core standards, “teacher-proof” curricula, and budget constraints limit and constrain the participation of teachers? What are the appropriate roles for teachers in order to have effective education reform movements?
