GEOG 072 - Land and Water Resources

Students will build digital databases to give insight concerning local environmental issues related to electromagnetic pollution and water quality. The focus on electromagnetic pollution relates directly to Smart Meter technology and Clark University’s new Sustainability Hub. The focus on water quality relates directly to collaboration with Massachusetts Audubon Society and the Blackstone Watershed Coalition. Student will collect data, build a database, interpret results and present the results to relevant stakeholders. This First Year Intensive course is a hybrid, which means that any Clark University student can enroll, including graduate students. The course is part of a Liberal Education and Effective Practice (LEEP) project concerning pollution and human health in Worcester. This course is coordinated with three other courses: GEOG280/380 Urban Ecology, EN177 Health and the Urban Environment, and EN103 The Sustainable University. We will have some joint meetings with the other courses during our shared time slot of Mondays 2:50-5:50pm. We will take field trips and we have guest presenters from the Clark University community and local environmental organizations. The course satisfies the Formal Analysis requirement for the Program in Liberal Studies. Prerequisites are high school math such as pre-Calculus.
