ENG 222 - Black Political Literary Movements of the 20th Century

This course examines the politics and culture of the two major black literary and cultural movements of the 20th Century, The Harlem Renaissance (or the New Negro Movement) of the 20s and 30s and the Black Arts Movement of the 60s and 70s. We will explore the legal, political, and cultural zeitgeist that gave way to these periods of highly politicized and radicalized literary and cultural production and the legacies of these movements for the contemporary era in the 21st century.
