WGS 200 - Introduction to Feminist Theory

Introduction to Feminist Theory is designed to offer a survey of feminist social theories and practices within academic and public realms, including, but not limited to social movements, the blogosphere and other contemporary avenues of critical thinking and exchange. The course employs a historical perspective to understanding the feminist project while simultaneously surveying different contemporary iterations of feminisms from across the globe. Using a model of collaborative learning, and significantly employing the principles of dialogic exchange, this course will explore multiple standpoints and identities from an intersectional perspective. By foregrounding race, sexuality, age, ethnicity, and class alongside gender, this course explores the nature and scope of feminism as a relevant political project for different groups of people in the world.
