IDCE 315 - Global AIDS Crises


This course engages HIV/AIDS in the context contemporary issues that fall within the broad global health arena of sexual and reproductive rights and health (SRRH).   The course will examine history of global and national AIDS and SRRH policies and programs and explore contemporary debates.  The course will be co-taught with a staff member of AIDS Project Worcester, a local AIDS Service Organization that has been in operation since the late 1980s.  Some class meetings with take place at the agency, and interacting with agency staff will allow students to see the intersectional nature of SRRH challenges: gender relations, stigma, addiction, food insecurity, trauma, and homelessness compound vulnerability to HIV and other sexually transmitted affections, and make it more challenging to life with an HIV diagnosis.  Students will work in teams on projects that are co-designed with agency staff.
