IDCE 30393 - Social Applications of GIS


This class investigates how GIS can help visualize, understand and respond to an array of social and environmental issues. Specific topics include sustainable development goals, critical GIS, community development and planning, geo-demographics, public health, environmental justice, and spatial accessibility. Students will read and critically evaluate current literature on these topics, use commercial and open source GIS software and conduct a research project on the topic of their interest. This course counts as a skills course for IDCE students.

IDCE 310 - Intro to Geographic Information Science  /GEOG 190  or IDCE 388 - Advanced Vector GIS
