PHIL 277 - Wittgenstein

Ludwig Wittgenstein is one of the most influential philosophers of the Twentieth Century. However, his texts are notoriously opague to a casual reader. This class will examine Wittgenstein’s writing, especially the Tractatus with a special attention to the problems he was trying to solve, the philosophers to whom he was responding, Bertrand Russell, and the immediate reception of Wittgenstein’s philosophy.
