IDND 023 - Writing: Dream Logic and the Truth

When you tell a story, do you exaggerate or change details in order to express more clearly the way the situation felt? When you try to describe your dreams do you find yourself saying things like, “it was my house, but it wasn’t my house,” or “he was a combination of two people,”? In this course, we’ll look at dream logic and other oblique and mind-altering strategies writers use to communicate situations where two opposing truths exist at once, or an emotional truth differs from “facts.” Texts will feature fever dreams, child narrators, drugs, and other indirect ways writers look at difficult subjects in order to communicate the Truth more directly.
