PSYC 238 - Critical Approaches to Youth Development Work

This seminar is an interrogation of what it means to work with youth in youth development and other educational settings. We will explore critiques of concepts such as adolescence, positive youth development, and Social & Emotional Learning (SEL), and consider how they intersect with social structures such as ideology, race, class and gender. We will also explore critical youth studies paradigms such as Youth Participatory Action research (YPAR) and consider the role of youth in shaping society.

Prerequisites: PSYC 150   OR PSYC 152  OR PSYC 153  or Instructor’s Permission
