PSCI 106 - NATIONALISM, ETHNIC CONFLICT, AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY


 Global Comparative Perspective: This course will introduce students to the theoretical approaches in international relations (IR) and their application for understanding the connection between nationalism, ethnic conflict, and international security. More specifically, the course will investigate topics such as the definitions of nationalism and ethnicity, rise of nations and nationalism, the causes of nationalist/ethnic conflict (including the intersectionality of race/gender/class/religion), and the responses of the international community to these conflicts. Students will be learn about historical and contemporary cases of nationalism and ethnic conflict in relation to international security, and evaluate the similarities and differences of those cases.
