PSYC 251 - Special Topics in Psychology


This course addresses current or timely topics, that are in a pilot phase or that are known to be one time offerings.  Special Topics can vary from semester to semester.

SPRING 2023

TOPIC 01: EMOTION
This course will cover how emotions affect thinking, mood, and behavior. What functions do emotions serve? Why do we have good and bad feelings? Why do we have psychological disorders causing us to feel bad? We will discuss the current psychological theories around emotion, along with examining the neurobiological process around emotion.

TOPIC 02: AFFECT, REASON, PERSUASION
This seminar draws from research that provides insights into the interplay of affective and analytic-cognitive aspects of the persuasion process. Topics touch on such things as health campaigns, political campaigns, advertising, and interpersonal persuasion.

Prerequisites for this course require a grade of C- or better

This course fulfills the mid-level First Seminar requirement of the Psychology major.

Maybe repeatable for credit.
