MUSC 002 - Sight Singing and Ear Training

This musicianship course is designed to build techniques associated with sight singing and ear training. The course will build students’ abilities to identify, through hearing, pitch, interval relationship, three- and four-note chords in various arrangements, and fundamental rhythmic patterns. Students will also learn to recreate what they hear
through singing. Students will become familiar with various solfege techniques, be able to sing sophisticated musical excerpts either through listening or reading, and become familiar with music dictation as a form of translating heard musical ideas. The course focuses on practical musical skills that will be beneficial to every student across all of the program’s concentrations.
