SOC 290 - Living in a Digital Age: Technology, Economy, and Culture


This seminar course interrogates the technological, cultural, and economic forces that define our digital lives. It explores the worlds of technology, science, and culture to understand the urgent questions of our times. For example, how is Big Tech intervening in our lives and what are the implications of its aggressive intrusions? What are the implications of the hijacking and harvesting of our attention, and new forms of intrusive capitalism? How has the ease of connection grown exponentially to benefit us, but also promote hyper surveillance by the tech giants?

Prerequisites: SOC 160 , SOC 201 , and SOC 202
