BIOL 111 - Comparative and Human Anatomy


During Vertebrate and Human Comparative Anatomy, students will be introduced to vertebrate anatomy. The lecture component will focus on the development and evolution of anatomy, examine the diversity of structures possessed by vertebrates, how form is related to function. The laboratory component will give the students a hands-on experience with anatomy. The labs will focus on dissection of the shark and cat, with material from a diversity of vertebrates available for comparison and evolutionary context. Lecture is interactive with opportunity for discussion and short activities. Lab is focused on hands-on experiences. This course is intended for anyone interested in learning about vertebrate diversity and anatomy, including our own. It is appropriate for anyone in the biology program, or interested in human health, veterinary medicine, or just diversity of organism.

Prerequisites: BIOL 101  and BIOL 102
