SPAN 136 - Women in Hispanic Literature & Art

We will discuss writings, movies and paintings by artists from Spain and Latin America. Examples include Frida Kahlo, Pedro Almodóvar, Julia de Burgos, Jaime Gil de Biedma, Sor Juana Inés, Paloma Pedrero and others. Topics to be considered include: self-representation, identity formation, autobiography, motherhood, sexuality, education, and family structure. Recommended for majors.

Prerequisites: SPAN 131   or SPAN 132  or by permission. Native speakers welcome.
