CRW 214 - Creative Writing Capstone
In this culminating course for the creative writing major, students will work one-on-one with faculty to revise the creative writing they have produced at Clark. Students will also contextualize their creative work within a larger literary tradition by writing an annotated bibliography, a kind of “literary family tree” that clearly articulates how certain texts have shaped their aesthetic, intellectual, and political concerns. In addition, students will write a 20-page critical essay that tracks their own trajectory as a writer, by articulating aesthetic influences, assessing their creative work’s strengths and limitations, and charting the work’s potential. Outside readings in literature and on craft will be assigned which correlate with student work. The course will culminate in a formal presentation (reading) of student work in front of an audience. For Creative Writing majors, this course fulfills the Capstone requirement.
