MGMT 4053 - Responsible Management in a Global Economy


This course will expose graduate management students to the challenges of management decision-making in a complex global context. It will highlight ethics, social responsibility, and sustainability as described in the School of Management’s mission. Each semester the course will focus on global issues identified by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and will study the business and managerial approaches to these issues. Students will work in teams to complete the SDG Project, applying foundational knowledge, appropriate framework(s) and the skills gained throughout the course to analyze companies’ SDG implementation and approach, and provide recommendations.

The course structure includes readings, lecture, case studies, and writing assignments. Students will be exposed to techniques, knowledge, and mindsets used in management consulting, think tanks, social enterprises, and businesses. Developmental competency areas include critical thinking, creative problem-solving, multiple perspectives, global mindset, change management, practice-oriented research, and managerial communications.

Anticipated Terms Offered: Annually
