WGS 240 - Special Topics: Women’s and Gender Studies

This course addresses current or timely topics in the area of Women’s and Gender Studies. Topics can vary from semester to semester.

SPRING 2024 TOPIC: FEMINIST METHODOLOGIES

This seminar provides a survey of key concepts and ideas that constitute feminist scholarship, and explores critical methods and approaches that are central to its development. This course draws on feminist research from multiple disciplines and considers how these ideas inform research across various interdisciplinary approaches that fall under Women’s and Gender Studies. In addition to examining trends and approaches in feminist scholarship, this course offers students an opportunity to design an individual research project, beginning with generating an initial proposal and designing a research question. Students will spend the first half of the semester familiarizing themselves with feminist research methodologies and approaches, and the second half of the semester executing their own project. The course will culminate in student presentations of their unique research. This course is designed for students who wish to complete the WGS Capstone requirement or Advanced Research credit.
