ENG 135 - The Short Story

This course involves intensive reading of stories that exemplify a variety of fictional genres, modes, and methods and introduces the student to the history and currency of this literary type, as well as its relationship to other media forms such as anthology television series (Twilight Zone and Black Mirror, for instance). We will consider the short story’s international scope of the short story, particularly in the 20th and 21st centuries. For English majors, this course satisfies the C-2 requirement.

This is a device-free course for class meetings. Students will not be permitted to use cell phones and computers in the classroom. All reading materials will be provided on the course Canvas or via hard-copy handouts, and on the classroom screen.
