SSJ 310 - Intro to Geographic Information Science


This graduate-level course introduces Geographic Information Science (GIS) as a powerful mapping and analytical tool. Topics include GIS data structure, sources of spatial data, coordinate systems, data visualization, and vector and raster GIS analytical techniques. Laboratory exercises focus on applying concepts presented in lectures to real-life scenarios using public data. These exercises include examples of GIS applications in environmental modeling, socio-demographic change, and site suitability analyses. Although the course is computer-intensive, no programming background is required.

Formerly IDCE 310. Students who have already passed IDCE 310 cannot receive credit for SSJ 310 and should not take this course.
