MSIT 3350 - IT Data Mining and Visualization


The rapid expansion of connected internet devices and systems has led to an explosion of machine-generated data, offering immense opportunities for enterprises to gain actionable insights. This course equips students with the skills to transform raw machine log data into powerful business, operational, and security intelligence.

Through hands-on exercises and practical applications, students will be exposed to a series of data mining tools and learn the end-to-end process of leveraging APIs to integrate with live data sets; from collection and forwarding to analysis and visualization.

Students will explore foundational concepts in data mining, business intelligence, security intelligence, and big data analytics while gaining real-world experience with enterprise tools. Students will master the concepts of Site Reliability Engineering through uncovering patterns, detecting anomalies, and generating meaningful insights that drive smarter business decisions.

By the end of the course, students will be proficient in creating intuitive reports, executive dashboards, and custom solutions which enable enterprises to turn data into actionable strategies.
