MSHT 3300 - Healthcare Technology Foundations Healthcare Technology Foundations is a comprehensive course designed to introduce students to the critical role of technology in modern healthcare systems. In this course, students gain insight into the essential components of the US healthcare system, and explore key concepts, challenges, and current trends in the use of technology to shape its future. Students will learn about electronic health records (EHR) systems, health information exchange (HIE), telemedicine, medical imaging and decision support systems, and remote patient monitoring technologies. They will further their understanding of healthcare data management, interoperability standards, and regulatory and privacy regulations. The curriculum will also introduce students to emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT) and digital health technologies, and blockchain in healthcare contexts. Through a combination of case studies, hands-on projects, and discussion, students will develop practical insights into the implementation and management of the diverse technological tools available for improving patient care, maximizing health outcomes, enhancing operational efficiency, optimizing clinician wellbeing and advancing health equity. This course prepares students to navigate the complex landscape of healthcare and contribute effectively to the evolving field of information technology.
