MSHT 3301 - Digital Health Applications and Architecture


Students will explore the design and implementation of Digital Healthcare Applications and their underlying Architecture. The course will provide an overview of foundational topics such as IT Service Management, IT support models, and Enterprise Architecture. Categories of healthcare applications will be discussed such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), Radiology Imaging, and Health Information Management (HIM). Through the lens of an Enterprise Architecture Assessment (EAA), students will learn methods for the successful design and deployment of these applications, including critical areas such as application security and disaster recovery. Students will delve into infrastructure concepts such as data storage and network architecture. The risks and benefits of emerging healthcare technologies will be examined with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, telehealth, and mobile applications. Hands-on activities, discussions, and a semester-long project will improve students’ understanding of the complex integration of IT systems within the healthcare industry, preparing them for real-world challenges and innovations.
