CES 302 - Social and Economic Dimensions of Climate Change Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing human societies across the globe. This course examines the dynamic and complex interplay between social, economic, and environmental systems in the context of climate change. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks, systems thinking and risk analysis, it explores the key social drivers of climate change, the profound impacts of climate change on global and national economies, social structures, and vulnerable communities, as well as the role of various institutions-governments, businesses, and civil society-in shaping responses to climate change. The course will also examine the implications of climate change, including the risks of inaction, the potential for green economies, and the challenges of transitioning to sustainable practices. By the end of the course, students will have a nuanced understanding of the social and economic dimensions of climate change, providing a foundation for subsequent course work focused on climate mitigation, adaptation, and justice.
