ARTH 101 - Ways of Seeing

Why are civilizations defined by the art they make? How do museums become the owners of famous works of art? Who determines what counts as art anyway? This course is a thematic introduction to key issues and hot topics in the field of Art History. Through readings, lectures, and discussions, we will interrogate how canons are formed, discuss how to interpret works of art and architecture, and debate how museums create meaning. This class will make frequent field trips to the Worcester Art Museum.

Students will be charged a V & PA lab fee upon registering for this course.
