EDUC 308 - Literacy Across the Curriculum

This course engages students to become familiar with a range of evidence-based literacy practices and strategies to support the development of middle and secondary students’ reading, writing, thinking, speaking, and listening skills within and across all disciplines. Using a critical lens to interrogate power structures embedded in language, students will consider disciplinary literacy to design curricular materials as a means to provide equitable access to diverse learners. Students will explore a critical inquiry stance toward disciplinary literacy skills and evaluate appropriate grade level texts through the lens of various frameworks. This course invites students to think about the details and state standards of their content-area and the literacy skills necessary to achieve success.
