EDUC 387 - Ways of Knowing in Mathematics (Elementary, Middle/Secondary) How can we engage ALL of the learners in our classrooms to make secondary math come alive by exploring, discussing, and writing about the ways we understand mathematical concepts in interactive and relevant ways to develop mathematical confidence? Explore grade-level-specific activities, strategies, and research to engage ALL students as mathematicians who seek to understand the why’s and the how’s of math. Further develop strategies and practices for equity and access for all, culturally relevant experiences, literacy development, digital literacy development, real-world connections, interactive discovery-based learning, and reflection. Cultivate a deepening understanding of mathematical concepts and skills by actively exploring your own conceptual understandings of ratio and proportion, geometry, algebra, number sense, and more while understanding how the ways of knowing a mathematical concept flow continuously from one grade level to the next and explore how to be mindful of and intentional about this in planning.
