BAN 104 - AI-Enabled Management Information Systems


Information Systems are vital to business, and tomorrow’s business leaders are expected to have the skills, knowledge, and capabilities to work effectively in business environments that integrate people, business processes, data, artificial intelligence (AI), and information technology. BAN 104 is an introductory one-unit course to AI-enabled Management Information Systems, a core business function.

This course introduces the various facets of information systems in business. In particular, emphasis is placed on the integration and alignment between information systems, AI technologies, and other functional areas such as accounting, supply chain, marketing, and finance.

The following major topics will be discussed during the course: introduction to IT (hardware, software, and networking); database management; data analytics and AI-enabled decision making; gaining competitive advantage with IT; the World Wide Web and the Internet; IT supply chain; Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP); Customer Relationship Management (CRM); Social Media; e-commerce strategies for the new economy; information systems development (phases, tools, and techniques); protecting people and information (threats and safeguards); emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and big data; and decision analysis.

Additionally, students will have opportunities to practice the information systems concepts they learn during the lecture periods using various computer tools such as Microsoft Excel, Access, and selected AI-assisted tools, as well as other web-authoring software.
