CRW 211 - Creative Writing: Advanced Poetry

This advanced poetry class mimics the life of a poet. Students will work on a book project in which poems are conceived of in conversation with each other rather than as one-offs. We will consider the mysterious and rather abstract way that poetry collections achieve their sense of unity. How can poems store energy like a rhizome, energy that shoots out to form other poems, energy that gets released by the reader in reading the work? Can a poem link with multiple other poems through a non-hierarchical network of thoughts, feelings, images, and sounds? We will consider how sonic and imagistic echoes can help us create pleasingly cohesive poetic architectures. This course counts towards the Creative Writing major and minor. For English majors, this course satisfies the C-1 requirement. For English minors, this course satisfies the poetry requirement. Can be retaken once for credit.

Prerequisites: CRW 107 , ENG 107, or permission of the Instructor.
